Detection of July 2015 Purworejo Earthquake Sequence using Waveform Matched Filter Technique
On July 10, 2016, an MLv 3.7 earthquake had been occurred in Purworejo region, Central Java, Indonesia. BMKG reported that the earthquake has an aftershock just 5 hours after the MLv 3.7. The following event occurred in 23:17 UTC that only recorded in local seismic stations. It is interested that a small earthquake has an aftershock. For further analysis, we need to know about the seismotectonic of the Purworejo region. A complete catalog of seismicity with a lower magnitude of completeness is needed. But due to the limit of the detection capability of BMKG’s earthquake monitoring system, some of small earthquakes will be missed. In this research, we focused on how to apply a detection method based on template signal matching to search for the small events that not listed in BMKG catalog. We successfully give contribution to determine the two-day seismicity of Purworejo region. Purworejo earthquake sequence can be shown clearly after we did the matched filter technique using BMKG seismic stations. We found 16 new detected events using only one template event with magnitude MLv 3.7. We show that there is not only two events as that BMKG reported before. The smallest event is event number 6 that occurred on 10 July, 17:56 UTC with MLv 1.91. The largest detected event, exclude the template event, is event number 2, i.e. MLv 2.67
